Rain and ground water on the locations
of the hot dip galvanizing industry
contain in most cases little
amounts of heavy metals, mainly Zn
and Fe. These elements are present
due to several reasons: as a consequence
of our past actions and the
fact that commonly used exhaust filter
systems have no “zero”-discharge
and will emit low concentrations of
heavy metals. Because of this there
has been a build up of the heavy
metals contaminating both rain and
ground water.
WTN Water Treatment has developed several techniques
in order to remove heavy metals from
rain and ground water, namely:
1- ReRain/Soil, Zero Discharge Ion Exchange System
2- WASOL H, absorption, low investment technology (see WASOL products)
3- Self Cleaning Filter, Filtration Technology
The choice of technology depends on legislation and the concentration of metals present in the liquid. Legislation varies from city to city and has enormous consequences in the choice of technology.
ReRain/ReSoil
ground/rain water treatment
The traditional way of removing heavy
metals is by sedimentation, filtration and
neutralisation. However, this commonly
used technique has several disadvantages:
a minimum metal concentration in
rain and ground water of 1-1,5 mg/l
or higher after treatment;
production of metal sludge;
non-selective for specific metals;
no zero discharge.
WTN Water Treatment has developed a process based on
ion-exchange technique, capable of selectively separating heavy metals.
Selective removal can be realised depending
the choice of the iron-exchange
meterial and regeneration method. On
occasion, the striping solution may be
re-used in the process, as a basic compound
for pickling acid.
